Moving Day
I guess if I thought of this as a real move, I wouldn't have as many odds and ends left unpacked. Closing isn't for a week, so I will have time to come back and finish. If we were moving across the country or even more than an hour away, I'd had to have a better end-of-story plan.
Empty At Last |
Ironically, tomorrow, the first day of no commute, Grant has to drive up to Fort Lauderdale to have his crown finished. He does deserve a crown for his hard work all these years, but this is, as you suspected, at the dentist. He had scheduled it to be done yesterday, while we were still close by, but the dentist office was without power! Are we being one with our Venezuelan neighbors who suffer electrical blackouts daily?
I posted the charcoal grill, lawn furniture, porch bench, secretarial chair and sewing machine chair as free items on NextDoor yesterday afternoon. So far the bench has been picked up. Someone is coming for the grill this morning, and a woman says she wants the secretarial chair. FaithFarm is coming for the bureau, headboard, and microwave. That means a lot less to carry over to our son's for bulk pickup. Still a lot, but less.
The movers (Joe Bonnie Movers) were marvelous. Under crew boss Jarrad, they finished in less time that estimated, so I didn’t spend as much as I thought. Nice.
Now we are sitting on our balcony with a G&T, contemplating our new life. Next order of business is to bike to Sir Pizza.
I believe I did a good job with this move. Considering I had been at my house 40 years and 10 days, I had a lot of stuff to go through. The fact that I dumped a couple of desk drawers into boxes labeled “misc” is minor. Plus I have the next year to go through what we moved. Not all is going to the next place.
Where will that be? I don’t know. I’ve given myself time off from thinking about it until January. I’m going to enjoy our year here on the key.
